World Book Day Drama Workshops: Snail And The Whale
What Your Students Will Learn
1) Children will imagine what happens next in the story, inventing exciting new adventures, locations and characters while building confidence in sharing their ideas.
2) By stepping into the shoes of different characters, pupils will explore thoughts, feelings and motivations, developing emotional understanding and communication skills.
3) Through a soothing ocean-themed experience, children will be given a moment of relaxation, discovering simple mindful techniques they can use to feel calmer and more settled both in school and in their everyday lives.
Performance Techniques
1. Children will use voice, movement, facial expressions and characterisation to transform into familiar and brand-new characters they create throughout their adventure. Whilst also taking part in a Gameshow, Whale of a Time!
2. Working in small groups, pupils will devise and perform their own short theatrical scenes inspired by key moments from the story before imagining exciting new chapters and adventures.
3. Using gentle music and sensory props, children will be immersed in a calming ocean journey that encourages creativity, relaxation and mindfulness. They will experience practical, accessible calming techniques that they can use to help regulate their emotions and feel more relaxed in their day-to-day lives.
